What Hermes Fable 5 actually is
Hermes Agent is the open-source agent from Nous Research. It can run on many model providers. Fable 5 and Fable 5.1 are Anthropic’s Fable models. The plugin README explains the trick: Hermes keeps its own agent loop, tools, approvals and compaction, and only the model call goes through the official Claude Code CLI.

When to use Fable in Hermes
Use your plan’s strongest model for the jobs that need it, and keep cheaper models for the rest. Hermes makes this easy:
- Run Fable as your main chat model for planning and hard problems.
- Point subagents at a faster model with delegation settings.
- Pin a cheaper model to routine cron jobs with
